INTERVIEW WITH WINNIE AWA
I am a Co-founder & CEO for Antidotestreet.com, a leading online destination for
Afro/ multi-textured hair and grooming products.
1. You're trapped on an Island and have one call to the person who will oversee your business/ brand for the next 6 months, what would you tell them?
My business partners. I wouldn't need to tell them anything either - they live and breath the Antidote Street brand just like I do and I trust them 100%.
2. How do you bounce back and refocus when $h*T hits the fan?
I'm a fixer by nature so my natural inclination is to jump in to correct things. However, as I grow, I am learning that it is important to take a break, get some perspective before tackling the problem head on.
3.If you had to commission an artist to draw success, what would it look like to you?
Success to me is not so much about how much money or fame one accumulates, but the contentment that comes with knowing I have used that very essence that makes me unique to make a strong impact.
For me, this means building a business which not only elevates the service for black beauty but even more importantly supports and develops the community to be future leaders.
4.Where does the passion for what you do come from?
The desire to create a world class service for the black beauty space. This goes beyond simply stocking products that people want to buy.
This is about making people have easy and convenient access to a critical part of their beauty routine. It bugs me that this space has been so under served for so long!! Elevating this experience is always front and centre of mind for the team and I!
5.How did you raise awareness for what you do and how do you stay relevant?
We simply go where our customer is!! We are obsessed with getting to know them, understanding what makes them tick so that we can meet them at their point of need. You would often find us on social media, asking questions and engaging on a one - on - one level.
