How the Hustle+Heels Business Programme was the Turning Point for this Sustainable Creative Brand - Plastique by Siân

Hustle+Heels is a business support organisation, delivering bespoke support to creatives and other business owners across the UK. As part of a recent business support programme delivered in the London Borough of Haringey, our expert business advisors delivered a six week programme of business support designed to empower, educate, excite and connect business founders. One of those programme beneficiaries was Siân Dorman, the visionary behind Plastique by Siân. Take a read of the below to see how Siân is getting on with the launch of her new collection.

Sustainable Creation: The Heart of Plastique by Siân

At the heart of Plastique by Siân lies a commitment to sustainability, in a world awash with single-use plastics. Siân Dorman, the visionary behind Plastique by Siân, has turned what many see as waste into wearable designs.

Siân collects these discarded materials from her local community, transforming them into bold and beautiful jewellery and original artwork. Turning the tide on waste, one piece at a time, and championing a future where products can be both beautiful and eco-friendly.

Wear the Change: A Journey of Vibrant Transformation

As the world awakens to the vibrant hues of spring, Plastique by Siân proudly unveils its Spring/Summer '24 collection, aptly named “Wear the Change.” This collection is not just a testament to fashion’s evolving landscape but also a narrative of personal growth and business resilience.

The Birth of The Collection

“Wear the Change” is a burst of colour and positivity, a visual celebration of sustainable style. Each piece in the collection, from the Aztec moon earrings to the striking lightning bolt earrings, is a statement of boldness and individuality. The collection is a reflection of founder Siân Dorman’s commitment to eco-friendly fashion, handcrafted with love in South Tottenham, London.

A Collaboration of Creativity and Community

The collection was brought to life in collaboration with the Candler Creative Community, capturing the essence of sustainable style at the Peanut Factory Photographic Studio. The models, adorned in Plastique’s creations, embody the happiness and community spirit that the brand stands for. Each photograph, shot and edited by Dan Candler, is a testament to the positive impact felt by wearers of Plastique.

The HBSP Influence

The journey to this collection was not without its challenges. However, Siân’s enrolment in the Haringey Business Support Programme (HBSP) proved to be a turning point. The programme provided invaluable support, offering expert advice and tailor-made action plans that helped navigate through the rough waters. It was the guidance received from HBSP that instilled the confidence needed to push boundaries and innovate.

A Future Embracing Change

As we step into the warmth of the sun, “Wear the Change” invites us to embrace a future where fashion and sustainability coexist harmoniously. It’s a call to action, to be bold, to be different, and to make a statement with every outfit.

Plastique by Siân’s Spring/Summer '24 collection is more than just fashion; it’s a movement. Join us in wearing the change.

As Plastique by Siân continues to innovate and inspire, we eagerly anticipate the waves of change it will bring to the fashion industry and beyond.

Why Plastique by Siân?

With a background in design and a heart rooted in environmental advocacy, I embarked on a mission to create a line of jewellery that is as kind to the Earth as it is to the wearer. Plastique by Siân offers a range of handcrafted pieces, from bold necklaces to elegant earrings, each telling a story of change and hope.

The Impact We Aspire to Make

Our goal is to inspire a movement, a shift towards conscious consumerism where every purchase supports a greener future. We aim to empower individuals to “wear the change” they wish to see, one accessory at a time. By choosing Plastique by Siân, our customers become ambassadors of a sustainable lifestyle, advocating for a world where fashion and responsibility walk hand in hand.

Three Pillars of Wisdom for Fellow Entrepreneurs

1. Embrace the Learning Curve: Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. When faced with obstacles, delve into research, seek mentorship, and never shy away from asking questions. Your business is a constant classroom, and every lesson is invaluable.

2. Build a Community, Not Just a Customer Base: Engage with your audience, listen to their stories, and involve them in your journey. A strong community fosters loyalty and turns customers into advocates for your brand.

3. Sustainability is a Journey, Not a Destination: Implement eco-friendly practices in every aspect of your business, from sourcing to packaging. Remember, small steps lead to significant changes.

Triumphs and Trials: The Rollercoaster Ride of Entrepreneurship

The path of entrepreneurship is paved with highs and lows. There were moments of doubt. However, the triumphs, like the overwhelming response to our “Wear the Change” collection, made every struggle worthwhile. The joy of seeing a customer’s eyes light up when they find the perfect piece that resonates with their ethos is unmatched.

As Plastique by Siân continues to grow, our commitment to sustainability and innovation remains steadfast. Join us on this journey, and together, let’s create a future that’s as bright and beautiful as the world we envision.

As we navigate the ever-changing tides of business, we hold onto the belief that with passion, perseverance, and a purpose-driven approach, anything is possible. We invite you to be part of our story and make a difference with us.

Plastique by Siân invites you to be part of this sustainable journey. When you wear a piece from her collection, you’re not just making a fashion statement; you’re advocating for a cleaner, greener planet.
