INTERVIEW WITH TESHNA

My name is Teshna but I’m mostly known as Queen Teshna. I am an Online Content Curator for www.queenteshna.com. As a UK based Blogger/Vlogger and for the past four years, I’ve been creating online tutorials showing women all over the world how to style and care for their natural hair. I believe simple and easy makes things less complicated and more fun. The skills I gained from working as a beauty therapist and my love for beauty has transpired into my videos. As a borderline product junkie, I love trying out new products and sharing them with my followers. Initially my content was heavily focused on natural hair because of my strong belief in freedom and expression. Fast-forward to a few years later, I learnt that everything is connected. Healthy hair means Healthy life. Not to mention your hair has such a major impact on your overall appearance. I incorporate my love for fashion, travel and health into my content.

1. What do you think was the tipping point that got you to where you are?

I started noticing a few of my videos had gained a large amount of views. I remember one video in particular had over 500,000 views. The reaction I received from friends and family when creating this video was pure mock. Not many took my passion seriously. After I posted this video I saw

a huge jump in my subscribers, I knew that from then on that my content was relatable and enjoyable to watch. That was the tipping point for me.

2. Where does the passion for what you do come from?

I have been a creator for as long as I can remember. From drawing at a very young age to now sharing my way of life with the world, the means may have changed, but the passion behind wanting to create something from start to finish has not. Ultimately, my passion stems from my curiosity to learn, create and share. This has fuelled my will to lending a hand to anyone that’s willing to accept.

3. How do you bounce back and refocus when $h*T hits the fan?

At this moment in time I have an aim. That goal trumps everything that may impact me negatively. Yes I get low and don’t wish to talk to anyone on days, but wanting to achieve the goal is more important for me than anything else. I take a deep breath, I remind myself what it is I want from life, and I start again. What else helps me get through is the people that I have chosen to surround myself with. Because they have a similar drive to me, it is easier to let go of the negatives.

4. What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome to achieve what you have?

The biggest challenge I have had to learn to over come is Perfection! I am a perfectionist and for the most part, that hinders my decision-making. I am a victim of paralysis analysis. It is something I have been working on and, honestly, I know I will be working on for a long time. The need to have everything down to a T is both a curse and a blessing because I have in the past failed to make active decisions, which lead to missing opportunities.

5. You're trapped on an Island and have one call to the person who will oversee your business/ brand for the next 6 months, what would you tell them?

I would tell them to keep the vision alive, pitch to brands and be very consistent. Also, don’t read my diary!
